Flu Vaccinations
2020 DPTI Voluntary Influenza Vaccination Program
It is estimated that the flu causes 300,000 visits to general practitioners and 1.5 million days of lost work time across Australia each year, not to mention the aches, pains, fever, chills and fatigue.
Getting a flu vaccination can not only reduce your risk of getting the flu but also spreading it to your friends, family and co-workers.
As part of the department’s ongoing commitment to Health and Wellbeing the 2020 Influenza Onsite Program will be held between 23 March to 3 April 2020 across 36 metropolitan and regional locations. Sessions for some regional locations will be held in May due to nurse availability.
The 2020 Southern Hemisphere vaccine contains the following strains:
- an A/Brisbane/02/2018 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus;
- an A/South Australia/34/2019 (H3N2)-like virus;
- a B/Washington/02/2019-like (B/Victoria lineage) virus; and
- a B/Phuket/3073/2013-like (B/Yamagata lineage) virus.
The vaccine this year has two strain changes from previous years.
Please note: While the influenza vaccine won’t combat COVID-19 it will help reduce the severity of influenza which can lower your immunity and make you more susceptible to other illnesses.
